Types of Anti-Vandal Switches

Types of Anti-Vandal Switches

Anti-vandal switches are designed for durability and resistance to tampering, commonly used in public, industrial, or harsh environments. They are categorized based on their activation mechanisms, design features, and specialized functions:

1. Push Button Switches

   - Momentary: Activates only while pressed (e.g., doorbells).

   - Latching: Remains active until pressed again (e.g., power switches).

   - Illuminated: Integrates LEDs for status indication (e.g., backlit ATM buttons).

   - Flush or Raised Actuator: Flush designs deter prying; raised buttons are tactile but rugged.

2. Emergency Stop (E-Stop) Switches

   - Mushroom-shaped actuator for quick access.

   - Latching mechanism to cut power instantly (e.g., factory equipment).

3. Sealed/Waterproof Switches

   - High IP ratings (e.g., IP67/IP68) for dust/water resistance (e.g., marine or outdoor use).

   - Often include O-rings or epoxy-sealed terminals.

4. Material-Specific Designs

   - Stainless Steel: Corrosion-resistant and durable.

   - Reinforced Polymer: Lightweight yet impact-resistant.

Key Features Across Types:

- Actuator Styles: Flush, raised, or shrouded to prevent tampering.

- Electrical Ratings: Vary by application (e.g., 12V DC to 250V AC).

- Terminal Types: Solder, screw, or quick-connect for easy wiring.

- Mounting Options: Threaded (secure) or snap-in (quick installation).

These switches are tailored for reliability in demanding settings, combining robust construction with specialized functionalities to resist wear, environmental stress, and intentional damage.
